In a fast moving world, we expect action every day. What did the Preds provide us with this past weekend?
Certainly not any blow-by-blow action, that’s for sure.
What has been in the Nashville news lately is the suspicious fact that Sergei Kostitsyn has filed for salary arbitration.
Well no sir. I do not think so. Let’s keep one of our first line forwards.
The hearing is set to happen between July 20th and August 4th, and we will be waiting on baited breath to see what kind of contract will be signed. And it WILL be signed.
In the meantime, questions are swirling about the signing status of Captain Shea Weber. As a restricted agent this year, Weber has plenty of options open to him, especially given that there will be no arbitration issues with him this year.
But what makes this signing particularly interesting is the opinions surrounding possible contract options.
With the signing of Ryan Suter to the Wild, many believe that the Weber contract will need to be not only long term but up to a possible $10 million per year. Now I don’t have a problem with Weber getting a huge contract like this, in fact I think it might be good for him. What is frightening to me is the other side of the contract talk.
That’s right. Trading.
The hot topic is whether or not Nashville should fold now and trade away Weber before he can sign as an unrestricted agent, thus having no return on any investment in the defenseman. Be sure to keep an eye on this one people, ‘cause it looks like we might be payin’ him or tradin’ him.
In other happier news, the Predators have expanded their “Get Out And Learn!” program to include not only beginner ice hockey but also inline hockey. Registration began today, so Get Out, And go Learn!
This free program has been a part of Nashville for many years, gaining even more notice since the Predators rolled into town. Just another fine example of how your Nashville Predators are giving back to their community!
On a final note, today is the second wedding anniversary of center Mike Fisher and country superstar Carrie Underwood. Congratulations to the beautiful couple, and may they have many more happy years!
