Saints ‘Cowboy Up,’ Win In OT

Lance Moore into the end zone

Garrett Hartley kicked a 20-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Saints to victory over the Dallas Cowboys, 34-31.

Drew Brees threw for 446 yards and three TDs–one each to Pierre Thomas, Lance Moore, and David Thomas. Marques Colston was the Saints’ leading receiver with 153 yards. Mark Ingram was the leading rusher with 53 yards and a touchdown.

Dallas Tony Romo threw for 416 yards and four touchdowns, half of which went to WR Dez Bryant. Bryant amassed 224 receiving yards and had two TDs. Miles Austin and Dwayne Harris also had touchdown receptions for Dallas.

The Cowboys scored twice within 3:35 minutes to tie the game and send it into OT. The Saints forced Dallas to punt on their first possession, and Drew Brees led the Saints down the field. But then……..

…perhaps the most exciting play of the game: Brees connected with Colston, who appeared to have control of the football. Colston fumbled and the ball rolled forward twenty yards or so. Saints TE Jimmy Graham and Dallas SS Eric Frampton both hustled after the ball. Graham recovered the ball on the Dallas two yard line.

This set the Saints up for the win with a 20-yard field goal by Garrett Hartley.

Saints win!

You know who wasn’t winning?

Analyst Daryl Johnston. Apparently Johnston lost some sort of bet and was wearing an ugly Christmas V-neck sweater, complete with shirt and tie underneath.

Next week, the Saints play their final game of the season at home against the Panthers. Sadly, I do mean final. The Saints are out of the playoff picture with the Vikings win over Houston on Sunday, but they are still playing to end the season with a .500 record.
