Today is Jamie McGinn’s 24th birthday! McGinn came to the Avalanche on February 28, the trade deadline. In 17 games with the Avs, he scored six goals and 13 points overall. He earned 11 penalty minutes (five of which came in a fight during his fourth game with the team). With an expiring contract, McGinn began negotiations with the team early this summer. He filed for arbitration, but was able to settle upon a deal that keeps him in the burgundy and blue for two more years, at $1.75 million a year.
McGinn has quickly become one of my favorite players (afterall, his number 11 is my number in soccer), and he’s a larger forward. He and Landeskog are two high quality wingers, and I am looking forward to seeing what McGinn can do with a full season in the Avalanche uniform.
I don’t know a lot of other things about Jamie McGinn other than the fact he has a tattoo on his right bicep ($20 to anyone who can tell me about it), he tweeted a picture of a little white fluffy dog in an Avalanche blanket calling her a big fan, and he has two younger brothers, both also drafted to the NHL.
As always, (for now at least, Jamie McGinn’s career will be defined by one goal, one moment. The goal he scored in Buffalo was one of the greatest goals of the season, and it still gives me chills personally.
