It was announced that Sylvain Lefebvrehas left his position as an assistant coach for the Colorado Avalanche. He will now be the head coach for the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs. (The Bulldogs are affiliated with the Montreal Canadiens.)
I’m sad to see him leave, because I think he did a fantastic job with the defensemen last season. Not only were they more defensively sound, but he was able to get a lot of offensive production out of a core that looked anything but offensive. It was also good to see him still with the organization-he spent four years with the Avs as a player, and was a part of the first Stanley Cup Championship. However, it makes sense that he wants to become a head coach, and I hope that this opportunity works out for him.
The Avalanche now have an opening for the video coach, and an opening for one assistant coach. Typically the Avalanche like to keep things “in house”, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see David Quinn (head coach of the Lake Erie Monsters) become the new assistant coach. Quinn also served as an assistant coach for this year’s Team USA in the World Championships.
