The opening night roster has been set and there really aren’t any major surprises to be found. With Kent Patterson and Kieran Millan being sent to the CHL’s Denver Cutthroats , fans know who the Monster’s 1.a and 1.b goaltenders are: Sami Aittokallio and Calvin Pickard. One down note though is the absence of Joey Hishon. Although he is listed on the roster, as noted by Denver Post Reporter Adrian Dater, “fact is he won’t play Friday — and nobody knows when he’ll play again. It’s possible he never will. Nobody knows. He’s still concussed apparently. He did not practice or play in any preseason games for Lake Erie.”
Link to Dater’s full story on Hishon can be found here.
Here’s a little information on where the team stacks up size and age wise. The average age on the team is 23 years old. The average height on the team works out to be 5 feet 10 inches and the average weight is 187 lbs. Compare this to last years final roster where the average age was 24 years old and the average height and weight was 6 feet and 192 lbs respectively. Those stats put the current Lake Erie Monsters thirteenth in average height, weight and age among the 30 teams in the league. This opening night team also brings with them over 2500 games of AHL experience.
Puck drops on the Lake Erie Monsters 2012-2013 season Friday Night at 7:30 pm at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
