The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Gaels will be represented in the 2012 London games this summer.

Current Gaels point guard Matthew Dellavedova and ex-St. Mary’s point guard Patty Mills were named to the Australian team for the London Games.

In the Bendigo Advertiser, Dellavedova had this to say.

“All I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid was play for Australia at the Olympics,’’ Dellavedova said from Melbourne yesterday where the Boomers are preparing for a three-game series against Greece, starting on Sunday.

“There’s some nerves there, but hopefully my name is read out. To get that opportunity to represent Australia at the Olympics would be great.”

The San Jose Mercury News reports, “This will be Mills’ second Olympics, and Dellavedova will be at his first. There’s a possibility [Dellavedova] be the only current college men’s basketball player to participate in London.”

Dellavedova, currently the WCC Player of the Year, will be a senior at St. Mary’s this fall. According to his player profile, he is the youngest member of the 12-man Australian National Team. Mills is currently a player for the San Antonio Spurs.

Right handed pitcher Kyle Barraclough was drafted in the 7th round, also by the St. Louis Cardinals, has signed as well.

Martin Agosta, RHP, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 2nd round.

The Seattle Mariners drafted catcher Toby Demello in the 29th round.

According to the Giants’ and Mariners’ draft results pages, Agosta and Demello have not signed as of this post.

Wisdom, a junior from Murrieta, CA, was ranked 100 in the 2012 MLB Prospect Watch for this year’s draft. In 53 games played and started, he put up a batting line of .262/.385/.476 and hit nine home runs with 24 RBI.

The decision to take Wisdom, 20, as high as the Cardinals did was a reflection of perceived upside, not 2012 performance. After hitting .351 and earning a place on the All-West Coast Conference First Team as a sophomore, Wisdom’s production took a dip this spring at St. Mary’s College.

As a junior, Wisdom batted just .262 with 12 doubles and nine home runs in 53 games. In 191 at-bats, he struck out 43 times.

“On the surface, Wisdom’s numbers were a little down this year,” scouting director Dan Kantrovitz said. “If you look at his entire body of work, it’s pretty impressive.”

On the SMC Athletics website, this is what Wisdom had to say:

“It is just a dream come true. I really don’t know what else to say, I am totally speechless.  I am very proud to play at Saint Mary’s and very honored to be a part of the Saint Mary’s community.”
