After Alabama’s last second loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl, the Tide dropped down to No. 4 and Florida State moved up to No. 1 this week. There were a couple of other upsets this weekend, with Fresno State getting beaten by San Jose State and Wisconsin losing to Penn State, which also caused some changes in the rankings.
The team with the biggest rise in the AP Poll this week was UCLA, who moved up five spots, from No. 22 to No. 17. The largest fall was Fresno State, who tumbled eight places, from No. 16 to No. 24. Southern Cal and Notre Dame, previously ranked No. 23 and No. 25, were replaced by Texas and Georgia, respectively.
In the BCS standings, the teams with the biggest gains were UCLA and Duke, who each moved up four spots, from and No. 22 to No. 18 and No. 24 to No. 20, respectively. Clemson and Fresno state tied for the largest drop, tumbling seven spots each, from No. 6 to No. 13 and No. 16 to No. 23, respectively. Like in the AP Poll, Southern Cal (previously No. 23) and Notre Dame (previously No. 25) fell out of the standings, while Georgia entered at No. 22 and Texas at No. 25.
