Twins Add Cory Provus To Radio Broadcast Team

The Minnesota Twins made it official today that Cory Provus will be joining the Twins’ radio broadcast team next season.

Provus, will be replacing the recently retired John Gordon, will be partnered with former Twins outfielder Dan Gladden in sharing play-by-play and analyst duties for all regular and postseason games as well as 25 Spring Training games to be aired exclusively on 1500 ESPN and the team’s 88-station radio network.

Provus, 33, spent the last three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, sharing play-by-play responsibilities with Hall of Famer Bob Uecker on WTMJ-AM and the Brewers Radio Network.

In 2007, Provus began his MLB broadcast career as the Cubs’ pre- and postgame host. He also handled play-by-play duties, backing up Pat Hughes during games, and anchored the morning and afternoon drive sportscasts as a reporter for WGN-AM in Chicago.

Prior to his work with the Cubs, Provus was the voice of the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers in 2006. While at UAB, he was named the 2006 Radio Sportscaster of the Year by the Alabama Broadcasters Association.

Provus will officially start his new role in January where he’ll join Twins players, coaches and front office staff for the Twins Winter Caravan and TwinsFest.

Touch ‘Em All John Gordon

For 25 years he’s been the voice of Twins baseball, but after Wednesday, radio personality John Gordon will have called his final game. Gordon will say his final goodbyes with the season finale for the Twins on Wednesday night. A generation grew up with the voice of Gordon being streamed thru their radios much like we grew up with the Metrodome.

“My wife, Nancy, and I decided that after 25 years with the Twins and 43 years in professional baseball, it was time,” said Gordon, who added health has nothing to do with his decision. “We were looking for the opportunity to retire, and I did not want to continue on for the rest of my life. There was a time for me to retire, and after 43 years, I decided to make the decision to retire.”

Gordon’s most iconic call is “Touch ‘em all _____” whenever a Twins player would hit a home run. No one could call a Twins game with such class and grace as Gordon has for the last 25 years.

John Gordon will be missed by many Twins fans and those that have had the chance to work with him over the last 25 years. So here’s to you John, Touch ‘Em all John Gordon, touch ‘em all.

Monday’s Twins Headlines

Former Twins left-handed reliever Ron Mahay has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The non-roster deal includes an invitation to spring training. Mahay, who turns 40 in June, spent last season with the Twins, where he appeared in 41 games before being lost to a shoulder injury. Last season he held left-handed hitters to a .219 average, .239 on-base percentage and .281 slugging percentage. If he makes the team, the Dodgers would be Mahay’s ninth team in his 15-year career.

1500 ESPN Twin Cities has added Twins third baseman Danny Valencia and Hall of Famer Paul Molitor to the “Talkin’ Twins” segments that will run Monday through Friday afternoons during the baseball season. Valencia and Molitor will join Ron Gardenhire, Dan Gladden and John Gordon.

The Twins are planning a 20th anniversary reunion for the 1991 World Series championship team August 5-7 at Target Field.

Fox Sports North is planning to host a TV panel with local general managers and team presidents after the successful airing of local coaches Ron Gardenhire (Twins), Kurt Rambis (Timberwolves), Todd Richards (Wild) and Tubby Smith (Gopher Basketball) in a TV panel setting.

Touch ‘Em All, John Gordon

For 24 years Twins fans have heard John Gordon’s voice on their radios calling Twins games, but 2011 will be John’s final season with the Twins. Gordon announced Tuesday morning that he is planning to retire after 25 years in the radio booth.

It was announced in December that Gordon was going to scale back and only cover 90 regular season games and 15 spring training games this coming season so he could spend more time with his family outside the ball park. Kris Atteberry, Ted Robinson and Bob Kurtz will be covering the rest of the season. Dan Gladden will still cover the entire Twins season.

Gordon’s hopes are to end his career the same way he started it, by calling a World Series win for the team he’s called home for the past 25 years.
