Former Blue Devil Stroman to participate in AFL Rising Stars Game

Former Duke baseball player Marcus Stroman continues to receive accolades in the minor league system with the Toronto Blue Jays. He was named to the Arizona Fall League’s Rising Stars Game as a member of the East Division’s squad. The game will be televised live on MLB Network this Saturday (November 2nd) at 5:10 MST.

2011-afl-logoStroman has had one poor outing in the AFL across six relief appearance for the Salt River Rafters. Overall, he is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA over 6.2 innings.

Here is a breakdown of his six outings:

10/8 versus Scottsdale: 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, K. He picked up his first hold while throwing eight of his 12 pitches for strikes.

10/11 versus Peoria: 1IP, 2H, R, 0BB, 0K. He took the loss, though he threw ten of his 12 pitches for strikes.

10/16 versus Glendale: 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, K. He threw nine of his 16 pitches for strikes.

10/18 versus Peoria: 1IP, H, 0R, 0BB, 3K. He threw 11 of his 17 pitches for strikes.

10/23 versus Surprise: 1.2IP, 3H, 3R, 3BB, K, WP. He took the loss as he threw just 23 of his 42 pitches for strikes. Stroman allowed a double in his first inning of work, before walking three and throwing a wild pitch in the eighth. He also allowed a two-run single before being taken out.

10/28 versus Mesa: 1IP, H, 0R, 0BB, 0K. He threw eight of his 13 pitches for strikes as he picked up his third hold in the AFL.

 

*Another former Blue Devil is also pitching in the AFL. That would be Dennis O’Grady, who is with Peoria. He has made three scoreless appearances out of the Javelinas bullpen.

Here is a breakdown of O’Grady‘s appearances:

10/21: 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, K. In his first appearance in the AFL, he picked up a win while pitching the 7th inning (12 pitches, eight for strikes).

10/24: 1IP, H, 0R, BB, K. He threw ten of his 21 pitches for strikes.

10/28: 2IP, H, 0R, BB, 2K. He threw 22 of his 38 pitches for strikes.
