It was just about exactly a year ago when this city was booming with excitement over the Marlins and their new look and players. It was the beginning of a new era. That is what team owner, Jeffrey Loria, said back then. The unveiling of the new team uniforms and logo was a major event. (No season ticket holders were invited, but at least Pitbull was there!) Loria tossed an old Marlins hat as if it was a piece of trash right before showing off the new look of the team. He said something like, “Out with the old, in with the new”.
After the big party, fans were invited to go to the new ballpark to buy new merchandise. I remember standing there, watching the crowd of people lining up to get first dibs on t-shirts and hats. Loria was standing in front of me, watching, with a huge smile on his face. I immediately thought of Mr. Burns of The Simpsons putting his hands together while saying, “Excellent.” No lie. We even joked about it afterwards.

It has been reported that the Marlins have traded away Mark Buehrle, Jose Reyes, Emilio Bonifacio, Josh Johnson, and John Buck to the Toronto Blue Jays for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Hendersen Alvarez, Justin Nicolino, and Jake Marisnick. So, the Marlins trade away all the fan favorites (except for John Buck. I mean, come on) for a homophobic Cuban (Escobar) and some other guys I don’t know much about right now. Sigh…

This week’s episode of The Franchise was pretty sad, yet happy in a few ways. This Marlins team has quite a few characters as we know it, starting with manager, Ozzie Guillen and outfielder, Logan Morrison.
The episode opened with top Marlins front office members, including owner Jeffrey Loria and general manager, Larry Beinfest, in a round table meeting discussing the progress of the team so far, as well as the future. It is really interesting to see what these guys have to say about the current state of the team. However, that is not what stood out to me this episode.

Whenever the Marlins do something stupid, I have to say “That’s so Marlins!” Well, I found myself saying it again today when I heard this news. That trippy home run feature? Yea, um, it can be a huge issue. I am not even talking about what fans think of it. I am talking about how it can mess with the actual game of baseball.

A funny thing happened last night during the Miami Heat vs. LA Lakers game.
During the second quarter, Heat Forward, LeBron James, ran over Marlins owner, Jeffrey Loria, while chasing a ball that went into the courtside seats.
Little did James know, he almost killed the Marlins owner. Not literally, of course.
Just watch the video and check out what James said when he found out.
I wonder if they are going to send LeBron a new Marlins hat.

Now it is official. The Miami Marlins are here. The unveiling took place at the new ballpark. It began with the official release of the new logo, which is the same as the one leaked before. The uniforms were also officially released. Some of our players came out wearing them.

Hanley Ramirez models the new uniform.
Team owner, Jeffrey Loria, unveiled the new logo after he literally threw a Florida Marlins hat away. I get that we are moving on, but I found that to be totally rude. Never mind all the history behind that logo. Funny thing was that my husband actually said the following before it all happened, “He better not throw an old Marlins hat.”

The night was bittersweet. It was the end of an era. It was the final Florida Marlins game at Sun Life Stadium. The night was a celebration of the last 19 years of this black and teal baseball team. Even though the Marlins lost, it didn’t ruin the night for us.

Marlins fans are going crazy wondering why Logan Morrison has been sent down to AAA after tonight’s game. No announcement for the reason yet. Joe Capozzi, the Marlins beat writer for The Palm Beach Post, has been tweeting the following quotes from LoMo.
