After a week off for International duty I was ready for this weekend’s games. The first three weeks of the season were action packed and now things are settling into a routine and the top dogs are once again prevailing. Enough of the babbling let’s get to the recaps!
Swansea (2) v Liverpool (2)
Goals- Swansea: Jonjo Shelvey (2’) Michu (64’); Liverpool: Daniel Sturridge (4’) Victor Moses (36’)
Jonjo Shelvey was a driving force against his former club as he helped Swansea end Liverpool’s 100-percent start to the season. Shelvey put Swansea ahead in the second minute but he made two mistakes in the midfield which cost them two goals. Not to be outdone Shelvey helped chalk up the tying goal by assisting Michu in the 64th minute. All in all it was an interesting game for both sides. Daniel Sturridge is still on a hot streak as he scored once again and Liverpool still hasn’t lost so far this season.
Everton (1) v Chelsea (0)
Goals- Steven Naismith (45’)
This is a typical game where the top dog team doesn’t capitalize on their chances and ends up losing. It was Chelsea’s first loss of the season having drawn the last game. Five minutes into the game Chelsea had a great chance on goal but Eto’o headed the ball wide. Eto’o had another chance late in the second half but Everton’s Barry slid in at the last minute to stop the ball from finding the back of the net. As the second half was winding down Steve Naismith found the back of the net for Everton. The final 45 minutes were chaos as Chelsea tried to find the equalizer but they fell short.
Sunderland (1) v Arsenal (3)
Goals- Sunderland: Craig Gardner (48’); Arsenal: Giroud (11’) Ramsey (67’, 76’)
Arsenal is keeping up their winning streak as they beat Sunderland 3-1 on Saturday. Arsenal opened up scoring in the 11th minute as Giroud finished the ball after finding a break in the Sunderland defense. Sunderland had their best chance of the first half in the 13th minute off a corner but Arsenal’s keeper made the diving save. The second half started off in Sunderland’s favor as they drew a PK in the 48th minute to tie the game 1-1. This goal seemed to give Sunderland a lifeline as they picked up their pace and had three chances in the span of 8 minutes. It all came tumbling down for them in the 67th minute though as Ramsey put the Gunners up 2-1, and then put the game out of Sunderland’s reach in the 76th minute as he scored again and gave Arsenal the win.
