The 2013 Cape Cod League All-Star Game was held on Saturday and two current Duke baseball players took part.
While Skyler Ewing (Rice) won the HR Derby with 13 total homeruns, Duke’s Chris Marconcini more than held his own. Ewing and Cal State Fullerton’s JD Davis hit seven in the first round, sending them to the finals. Casey Gillespie of Memphis hit five. Marconcini, who is currently playing for Orleans, hit four. He was the last hitter to go in the first round.
The All-Star Game followed with Davis earning MVP for the winning East team and Kevin Cron (TCU) earning MVP for the West. Davis hit a three-run homerun (one of his two hits) while Cron drove in two of the West’s three runs.
Duke’s Sarkis Ohanian pitched an inning for the losing West team. He pitched the 5th inning and allowed one run on one hit while striking out two. He faced four batters and threw 16 pitches (ten for strikes). Ohanian allowed a two out solo homerun to Ian Happ of Cincinnati.
