Duke women’s soccer upsets Florida

In Friday night’s NCAA Tournament second round game, host Duke upset second seed (and 6th ranked) Florida, 1-0. The lone goal came via senior Natasha Anasi in the 21st minute in the first half. It was the two-time All-American’s first career tournament goal.

Duke moves on to the field of 16 to face Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at 1pm ET. The Razorbacks also won 1-0 on Friday over St. John’s. The Blue Devils have now won ten in a row at home and are looking for number 11 on Sunday.

Obviously, Duke held the nation’s number two scorer, Savannah Jordan, scoreless. She had 22 goals going into the game and had a great shot at number 23 in the 17th minute, but Duke goalie Meghan Thomas picked up the save. Jordan ended up with three goals on the night.

Anasi, one of the top defenders in the country, got all the praise from her teammates for doing just about everything Friday night: scoring the lone goal and playing great defense on one of the best players in the country.

Florida ended up with an 11-7 shot advantage, but the Blue Devils ended up being victorious.
