After 11 days off, the Duke women’s basketball team was back on the court on Thursday evening for their first game of 2014. The Blue Devils beat visiting Old Dominion, 87-63. It was their 64th straight win over an unranked opponent at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Blue Devils led 45-32 at the half, despite the fact that senior point guard Chelsea Gray was in foul trouble. She finished with just five points and three assists (compared to two turnovers). They shot over 60% from the field (52.2% for the game).
Tricia Liston once again led the Duke offense, as she scored 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting. She also had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Elizabeth Williams had one of her best games of the season: a double-double. She scored 12 points and hauled in 12 rebounds, six on the offensive end. She also extended her block streak to 84 games (she had four blocks).
Duke also received alot of quality play from their bench, none more than the play of Ka’lia Johnson, who played a season-high 18 minutes. She also scored a season-high seven points (3-of-4 shooting) and hauled in six rebounds (four on the offensive end). Oderah Chidom scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and hauled in two offensive rebounds. Richa Jackson added five points and four rebounds (three offensive).
For ODU, Tiffany Minor scored 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting. LaQuanda Younger chipped in 15 points.
Duke now heads to Georgia Tech for a Sunday afternoon matchup to start their ACC part of their schedule.
