Last Thursday night, the Cape Cod League (an elite college baseball summer league) held its league finals in front of a sellout crowd at Eldredge Park. On a chilly evening for August baseball, Cotuit outlasted Orleans, 6-1.
It was a pitcher’s duel, as the Kettleers led 2-0 before exploding for four runs in the top of the 8th inning.
For the Firebirds, there were two Duke baseball players participating in the CCL finals.
Chris Marconcini was the DH, batted cleanup, and went 2-for-4. Jordan Betts batted next and played first base. He went 1-for-4.
On the season, Marconcini hit .289 in 41 games (44-for-152) with 11 doubles, one triple, and three home runs. He also drove in 23. In the playoffs, Marconcini went 8-for-24.
On the season, Betts hit .248 in 39 games (31-for-125) with seven doubles, three home runs, and 11 RBIs. In the playoffs, he went 7-for-28 with six RBIs.
The two will return to campus as classes are set to begin.
