Duke men roll past Elon in first true road game

The Duke men’s basketball team played their first true road game in their last game of 2013 and it proved to be an easy task. The Blue Devils beat host Elon, 86-48.

Duke-BasketballIn the first half, Duke used good defense to hold Elon to just 18 points and guard Andre Dawkins led the way offensively. He finished with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the outside. Elon only made 19-of-54 shots for the game. They also committed 22 turnovers.

In the second half, it was more of the same for Duke, but everyone got involved. Even Todd Zafirovski and Nick Pagliuca got into the box score (Zafirovski made 1-of-2 free throws and Pagliuca hauled in a rebound).

Four other Blue Devils scored in double figures. Rodney Hood overcame a poor shooting first half to score 13 points on 4-of-12 shooting. Jabari Parker recorded a double-double (12 points and ten rebounds). Quinn Cook scored 11 points, hauled in five rebounds, dished out four assists (to zero turnovers), and had three steals. Rasheed Sulaimon came off the bench to chip in 11 points and four rebounds.

Amile Jefferson had a solid game off the bench: nine points and six rebounds.

Duke made 32-of-66 shots (48.5%) and had 13 assists. They out-rebounded Elon, 40-36. The defense had 12 steals and blocked five shots. On offense, the Blue Devils only committed seven turnovers.

On the negative side, the only made 12-of-23 free throws.

Next up for Duke begins the ACC part of their schedule. They travel to play Notre Dame on Saturday.
