The Duke men’s basketball team bounced back after a tough loss on Tuesday night with a convincing home victory over Florida Atlantic on Friday night, 97-64. The Blue Devils led 52-29 at the half, so Coach K may not be thrilled with their play in the second half.
The outside shot was falling for Duke, and falling frequently. They made 12-of-23. Andre Dawkins came off the bench to hit 5-of-8 (6-of-9 total). Jabari Parker made 4-of-6 three pointers, 7-of-13 shots overall for 21 points. He put up his first double-double, as he hauled in ten rebounds. Quinn Cook made 2-of-4 shots from behind the arc, but only 1-of-4 from inside it. He hauled in six rebounds and dished out seven assists (to three turnovers).
Rodney Hood led all scorers with 28 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He also made 12-of-13 free throws.
After not playing in the first half, freshman Matt Jones scored four points in the second half on 2-of-3 shooting.
Overall, the Blue Devils made 54.8% of their shots (34-of-62). They only turned the ball over nine times, while dishing out 18 assists. The Duke defense forced 14 turnovers.
On the negative side, Duke struggled a bit on the glass once again. FAU had 16 offensive rebounds (38 total), though Duke won the battle with 41 boards (but only nine offensive). The Blue Devils also struggled a bit from the free throw line, making 17-of-24.
For FAU, Pablo Bertone scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Justin Ruffington scored 14 points (6-of-11) and hauled in eight rebounds off the bench. Richard Morrow chipped in 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.
