After beating Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon, the Duke men’s basketball team moved up a few spots in the AP Poll to number seven (eight in the USA Today Coaches Poll). In both polls, Arizona is still the number one ranked team in the country.
Fellow ACCer Syracuse remains number two in both polls and continues to receive first place votes after beating Villanova. North Carolina is the only other ACC school to be ranked, and they come in at number 19.
Pittsburgh and Florida State are also receiving votes.
The men are back in action on New Year’s Eve in their first “true” road game of the season. They have a matchup tomorrow afternoon at Elon before beginning ACC play on January 4th at Notre Dame.
The Duke women’s basketball team remained number three in the country after not playing this past week. The Blue Devils will be back in action on January 2nd against Old Dominion at Cameron Indoor Stadium. That is their last non-conference game before beginning ACC play on Sunday at Georgia Tech.
There are still six ACC teams ranked in the women’s basketball top 25. Notre Dame became the new number two last week after the Blue Devils lost to UConn, who remains the unanimous top team (the Irish are 11-0). Maryland is number eight with a 12-1 record (their lone loss being a blowout to UConn). North Carolina has creeped back into the top ten at number ten (11-2). Syracuse and Florida State are ranked back-to-back (number 20 and 21), as both teams have just one loss.
North Carolina State and Georgia Tech are also receiving votes.
