With two home victories this week in the ACC, the Duke men’s basketball team climbed in the rankings to number 18 in the AP Poll.
The top two teams in the country remain the same: Arizona and Syracuse. Michigan State moved up to the third spot and Villanova jumped to number four. Wichita State is the only other unbeaten team (besides the top two) and stayed at fifth.
Kansas beat three straight ranked opponents to jump from 15th to eighth (the biggest move up in the poll). Baylor had the biggest fall (from 12th to 24th) and have to play the Jayhawks tonight. Iowa jumped into the top ten (tenth) for the first time since 2002.
There are still just three teams ranked in the ACC: Syracuse, Duke, and Pitt, who comes in at number 20 (16-2).
The Blue Devils look to win three in a row when they travel to play Miami on Wednesday night.
There has not been a ton of movement in the top half of the women’s basketball poll, as the top three remain the same. UConn once again is the number one team in the country, as they blew out Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. The Duke women’s basketball team remains at number three at 18-1.
Notre Dame remains the second team in the country at 16-0. Including the Irish and Blue Devils, the ACC still has six teams ranked, four of those teams are ranked in the top ten. Maryland comes in at number six (16-1), followed by North Carolina at number seven (16-3).
NC State is ranked number 23 at 16-3. Despite losing three in a row (14-4), Florida State is still ranked (number 24). FSU and Duke will meet on Thursday night in Tallahassee.
