The deficit was just 10-7 heading into the second quarter before visiting Georgia Tech scored 21 straight points en route to their 38-14 victory over Duke. The Blue Devils actually led 7-3 with nine minutes to go in the first quarter.
Duke converted on just three third downs, while the Yellow Jackets were 11-of-17. Duke did however convert on a fourth down.
The Yellow Jackets had 469 total yards, with Duke only getting 254 total yards. The Blue Devils only had 132 yards rushing (on 34 carries). Duncan led the team with a career-high 89 yards. He was the only Blue Devil who rushed for more than 19 yards. Meanwhile, GT rushed for 344 yards! Six players rushed for more than 20 yards.
Durham native and GT quarterback Vad Lee had a great day in his homecoming. He was 8-of-16 for 125 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed 22 times for 76 yards and a TD in the first quarter that gave the Yellow Jackets the lead for good.
Meanwhile, Duke quarterback Connette was 15-of-28 for 122 yards. He rushed ten times for just 15 yards. Issac Blakeney had four catches for 49 yards (an average of 12.3 yards) and his longest catch was 21 yards. Braxton Deaver also had a catch of 20 yards. Jamison Crowder only had 38 yards receiving on six catches.
The Blue Devils hope to get back on track next Saturday as they welcome new-to-the-ACC Pitt to Durham for a 12:30pm ET game. Pitt blew out New Mexico earlier today, 49-27. It will be Pitt’s first ACC game, while Duke looks to even up their record.
