Duke field hockey upsets UVA in ACC Tourney

In a rain soaked ACC Tournament game up at Boston College, the seventh ranked Duke field hockey team (and the fourth seed) upset the fourth ranked team in the country, Virginia, 2-1. The Blue Devils move on to face the top seed (and the top ranked team in the country) Maryland in the semifinals on Friday at 1pm ET. Duke lost their final regular season game to the Terps last week.

field hockeyUVA led 14-7 in shots and 10-6 in penalty corners. Yet Duke was the team advancing. Goalie Lauren Blazing finished with 11 saves, the third time this season she has recorded double-figure saves.

Emmie Le Marchand got Duke on the board in the first seven minutes of the match on their second penalty corner. It was her 12th goal of the season. In the 31st minutes, the Cavaliers tied the game at 1-1.

Just over six minutes into the second half, Duke took the lead again. Le Marchand passed to Devon Gagliardi for the score. It was her fourth goal of the season.
