The Duke field hockey team lost a heartbreaker in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament on Friday afternoon. They lost 3-2 in overtime to top ranked Maryland in a rainy, windy match up at Boston College. The Blue Devils tied the match with just 3:17 to go.
The Terps led 2-0 before the second half before Duke got on the scoreboard. Maryland led by two goals at the 11:54 mark. With 16:05 remaining, Abby Beltrani scored on Grace Christus‘ second assist of the season. Duke got the equalizer on a penalty corner score by Hannah Barreca, her third goal of the season.
The Terps scored the game winner less than four minutes into the first overtime period.
Maryland finished with 15 shots on goal, while the Blue Devils had just five. Maryland had 12 of those shots in the first half.
Duke goalie Lauren Blazing finished with 12 saves, her second straight double-digit total.
