Royals Spring Training Notes: Intrasquad Tie

In the KC Royals first intrasquad game on Tuesday (a six and a half inning affair), the World and USA played to a 5-5 tie .

The World team showed their muscle, as catcher Salvador Perez homered in his only at-bat and third base prospect Cheslor Cuthbert hit a two-run shot. Perez‘ homer came against lefty Tim CollinsCuthbert‘s homer came in the fourth inning (his first at-bat) after shortstop Christian Colon had singled off lefty Chris Dwyer.

Colon delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning off Blaine Boyer to tie the game at 5-5. That came with two outs. He also made a great play to rob the speedy David Lough of a 6th inning single. Colon says that veteran Miguel Tejada helped him with that play.

The USA collected eight hits, including doubles by both Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer in the first inning off Bruce Chen to give them a 1-0 lead. Nate Adcock pitched a perfect first inning for the USA, getting three straight ground outs.

Luis Mendoza was tagged for three runs in his one inning, as he allowed three singles. However an error by Irving Falu at second base let the last two runs score.

For the World, Guillermo Moscoso and Noel Arguelles each pitched a perfect inning of relief.
