Couldn’t Attend Royals Fan Fest?

So maybe you live in the Kansas City area but could not attend last weekend’s Royals Fan Fest. Well, you are in luck (no they are not holding another one).

FOX Sports Kansas City will be airing two shows that were produced at Fan Fest. The shows will include interviews with Royals players, along with the sights and sounds from the event.

Or maybe you went to Fan Fest and would like to look for yourself on TV. Or you just want to relish in the moment that this could be THE season for the Royals.

The first show will air tonight (Friday, January 25th) at 5:30pm CT. It will re-air on Monday, January 28th at 5:30pm CT, Wednesday, January 30th at 10pm CT, Sunday, February 3rd at 10pm CT, and Friday, February 8th at 4pm CT.

The second show will air Sunday, February 3rd at 10:30pm CT, Tuesday, February 5th at 5:30pm CT, and Friday, February 8th at 4:30pm CT.

Royals Cancel FanFest

The KC Royals announced this week that they are not having FanFest this year, instead focusing on the 2012 MLB All-Star Game that will be held at Kauffman Stadium in July. They will however continue to have their awards luncheon.

Most likely, the awards luncheon (which will honor Alex Gordon, free agent Bruce Chen, and Eric Hosmer) will cost WAY more to attend than Fan Fest. Plus there will be a limit to how many people can attend. Meaning? Most die-hard Royals fans will not be able to attend.

I understand that the Royals need to focus on the All-Star Game because it is such a huge event for the team and the city of Kansas City. You don’t want to screw it up with the whole country watching. But the organization shouldn’t forget about their “real” fans. Most of them probably won’t be able to attend the ASG either (because of the price of tickets or the limited tickets available).

I think putting together a Fan Fest wouldn’t take a whole lot of effort or take away from preparations for an event in the middle of the summer. Open Kauffman Stadium and have tours available. Have players available for pictures, autographs, and Q&A sessions. Have the store and concessions open. Have games for kids. Have Sluggerrr available. Have a few former players attend. All for one day and a low price.
