The KC Royals have signed yet another to a minor league deal.
They signed right-hander Blaine Boyer on Thursday. Most likely, he will be invited to spring training.
Boyer is a reliever and a ground ball specialist. He also does not allow the longball: just 17 homeruns in 234 big league innings. Ten of those homeruns were allowed in 2008 when he pitched in 76 games for Atlanta.
Problem is, he has not pitched in the big leagues since 2011 when he was with the NY Mets. But even then, he only made five appearances. He did not pitch in the US in 2012 and has not been a viable pitching option since 2005 when he had an ERA of 3.11 in 43 games.
I was a fan of Boyer‘s when he was coming up through the Atlanta Braves organization in the early 2000s, but he did not reach his potential.
