Royals 3-Game Winning Streak Comes to an End

The KC Royals three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end on Friday night, as they were battered by Baltimore, 7-1.

It was too much of the new Orioles players.

It started in the 2nd inning when second baseman Omar Quintanilla hit a two out, two-run homerun off Royals starter Luke Hochevar. That came after Salvador Perez gave the Royals a 1-0 lead with a solo homerun in the top of the 2nd inning.

It came again in the 5th inning and then the 6th inning. Rookie Manny Machado, who had debuted on Thursday, hit a solo homerun to lead off the 5th inning. He came up again in the 6th inning with two on and one out and hit another homerun.

And all throughout the game (or at least the first eight innings), starter Miguel Gonzalez was too much. He allowed just that one run on six hits and a walk while striking out five. The only extra base hits he allowed were the Perez homerun and a Jeff Francoeur double (but he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple).

Pedro Strop blew the Royals away in the 9th inning (he threw 13 pitches while striking out two).

Hochevar left after 5.1 innings while allowing all seven runs on seven hits and two walks. Five of the O’s seven runs came via the homerun ball. After he left, the Royals bullpen was pretty solid (though Everett Teaford got into a bit of a jam in the 9th inning).

*Jarrod Dyson left the game late with an injured ankle.

**Don’t forget, I’ll be at the game tomorrow. Not sure if I’ll live blog the game. I’m expecting a much bigger crowd at Camden Yards then they have gotten for the first two games. It’s Eddie Murray Night at the ballpark, as his statue beyond CF will be unveiled.
