It’s easy to focus on the statistics for an NHL team. How many goals did ‘x’ player score? What was his plus-minus? How much ice time did this player see, or that one? But sometimes, it’s good to look at how the team came together, and how it was built – so let’s do that now, for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the have re-signed defenseman Korbinian Holzer to a one-year deal.
The 24-year-old native of Munich, West Germany was drafted 111th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Maple Leafs. This past season was his second with the Marlies, and he had 20 points (1-19) in 67 games this season.
Holzer also played two games with the Leafs in 2010-11.
Just over a week after the NHL free agent market opened, the Toronto Maple Leafs have remained one of the quieter teams, landing just two new players and staying inactive since last weekend.
Jake Gardiner played a total of 79 games last season, between the AHL and NHL clubs in Toronto. He also played in 17 games of the Calder Cup Finals and as the youngest player on the roster, still has two years remaining in his entry-level contract with the Maple Leafs.
While some teams made a splash in the free agent pool on Sunday, the Leafs organization remained fairly quiet. The team signed just one player who didn’t spend last year in a Toronto uniform.
Right winger Colby Armstrong, who struggled to find a spot on the Leafs’ roster this season and dealt with injury, has reportedly been bought out by the team just one day before the NHL’s free agency is set to begin. » Continue reading “Leafs Buy Out Armstrong”
