DKA: Balotelli At It Again; Dempsey Still On Fire

Mario Balotelli revealing his now famous "Why Always Me?" t-shirt.

It wouldn’t be another weekend in the EPL if Mario Balotelli wasn’t in hot water, would it? The Manchester City striker was up to his old tricks again over the weekend, and today, it seems as though his time with City may be over soon. Plus, American players across the globe had an impressive showing over the last couple of days, including Fulham star Clint Dempsey. And of course, we have some great goals for you to check out. All that, and more, here’s your Daily Kick Around!

English Premier League

The Deuce is loose! USMNT and Fulham stud Clint Dempsey is on an absolute goal-scoring tear. The 29-year old striker notched two goals this weekend, bringing his total (in all competitions) to 21. He is fifth on the list in the EPL. Impressive stuff from the American.

Dempsey has one more year on his contract with Fulham after this season, and while many are talking about what his next move might be, Deuce isn’t worrying about that until after the season ends. Rumors are swirling that EPL giants like Arsenal and Manchester United are among the teams that Dempsey has been linked with, but of course, we will all have to wait until the summer to see where he ends up next season.

There was plenty of EPL action this weekend, but it also continued today. One surprising result: Norwich took down Tottenham Hotspurs this morning, 2-1. Here are some more scores from today. Also, in case you missed it, you MUST see this amazing solo goal from Hatem Ben Arfa for Newcastle today.

After his ejection from the Manchester City-Arsenal match Sunday, it could be curtains for Mario Balotelli. The striker faces a potential ban of multiple games, and with only six games left this season, Balotelli may not see any more minutes on the pitch for City. It also seems that manager Roberto Mancini may be done dealing with Mario’s antics. Could this be the end of Balotelli’s time at City?

Major League Soccer

Another weekend of great MLS action finished. Now it’s voting time: Goal of the Week. Who ya got? My pick: Wondolowski. The combination of holding off his defender and the chip over the goalkeeper shows both power and finesse in one sequence. Fantastic goal.

And in our final story of the day, elite soccer players are proving the “dumb jock” stereotype wrong, one scientific study at a time. A study at the Karolinska Institute found that elite soccer players have above-average cognitive abilities. Head over here to read more about the fascinating results.
