Tim Tebow’s Newest Honor: Mr. Popularity

If you ever wondered how Tim Tebow would fare in a popularity contest, here’s your answer.

Credit ESPN.  The worldwide leader in sports actually conducted a popularity contest.

Say what you will, but this is far, far better than the ridiculousness NFL.com recently posted called ‘Tim Tebow’s celebrity marriage: What would the kids look like?”  NFL.com, people!

I'm killin' it with the self-made graphics!

But I digress…

The ESPN Sports Poll has surveyed Americans on their favorite professional athlete for the last 18 years.  According to ESPN, only 11 athletes have been No. 1 in their monthly poll, putting Tebow in elite company.

Of the 1,502 Americans ages 12 and over surveyed, 3% named Tebow their favorite professional athlete.  Kobe Bryant (2%), Aaron Rodgers (1.9%), Peyton Manning (1.8%), and Tom Brady (1.5%) rounded out the top five.

As Mr. Popularity, Tebow won’t get a crown and sash – à la Homecoming or Prom Court – but he will get plenty of airtime on ESPN.  He is Mr. Popularity, after all.

Good news for fans that can’t seem to get enough.

Bad news for those who’ll need to find alternative programming when Tebow’s name shows up on ESPN’s SportsCenter rundown.
