Denver Broncos’ 2012 Uniforms Revealed

The NFL is now “swooshified.”

After weeks of buildup – hey, it is the offseason – Nike, unveiled the 2012 NFL uniforms, and aside from the Denver Broncos’ move to orange, next season’s uniforms look much like their 2011 Reebok cousin.

And that’s fine with me.

According to an employee at the Broncos’ team shop at Sports Authority Field, the jerseys will be available April 26, though you can pre-order beginning April 15.

Other Nike merchandise is now available via the NFL’s team shop.

Denver Dailies: Broncos Roundup (Monday Edition)

Broncos’ Peyton Manning beats fear factor in his return to NFL - There were several times during the 439 days that passed between the time he took his last meaningful snap for the Colts and when he signed his new contract with the Broncos that Peyton Manning couldn’t help but wonder if his career might be over.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Kickin’ it: Insensitive John Elway lights a fire beneath Tim Tebow fans - Burning hot.  You don’t seriously believe Broncos executive John Elway is hurting inside after getting rid of quarterback Tim Tebow, do you? Seriously? That was the greatest day of Elway’s life, and he couldn’t care less about Tebow. He lied to Tebow and fans over and over again, and now we are supposed to believe a word that comes out of Elway’s mouth? This is the thanks that Tebow gets for turning around a terrible team, taking the Broncos to the playoffs and then throwing for 316 yards against Pittsburgh?  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Klis: High hopes not just pie in the sky for 2012 Broncos - Merely by closing the deal with Peyton Manning, Broncos front-office boss John Elway has become a leading candidate for NFL executive of the year.  Elway is not a cinch, though. One, don’t dismiss the possibility of a Tebowmaniac infiltrating the voting process. Pat Robertson has had a strong following over the years, and he’s plenty mad.  Two, Elway still has to do something about the two doughnuts at the front of the middle of the other side of the ball.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Hanie Joins Broncos - The Broncos have added their second quarterback of the free agency period as the team announced that it agreed to terms with quarterback Caleb Hanie on Sunday.  Hanie enters his fourth NFL season in 2012 after opening his career with the Chicago Bears. He has played 10 career games (4 starts) and completed 59-of-116 passes for 679 yards with three touchdowns and 10 interceptions.  Read more from Denver Broncos >>>>

Tabloid writers, get set for Tim Tebow! - What a week for NFL adjustments. The New Orleans Saints have to adjust to losing much of their coaching staff and possibly most of their defense. The Denver Broncos have to adjust to having a real Hall of Famer at quarterback again, while the Indianapolis Colts have to adjust to not even having Curtis Painter anymore. The Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jags have to adjust to, well, check that, nothing new there.  Read more from ESPN >>>>

Peyton Manning And Caleb Hanie Give Denver Broncos Ultimate Risk Vs. Reward At Quarterback - When all is said and done in the AFC West in the 2012 season, the Denver Broncos are either going to be as tall as the mountains that surround them or falling deep into the same valley they occupied as one of the NFL’s worst teams in 2010. They’ve set themselves up for that much with their quarterback signings of Peyton Manning and Caleb Hanie in the last week.  Read more from SB Nation >>>>

Bronco Fans, Stop Bashing Elway and Move On - Of course, I must first start with a disclaimer:  I have been following quarterback Tim Tebow since his sophomore season at the University of Florida and have been a big fan of him since his collegiate football days.  I will continue to follow him throughout his career and acknowledge that he is an incredible athlete, fantastic football player and a great person with commendable character.  Read more from Bronco Talk >>>>

Manning Mania Touches Down in Colorado With Peyton-Inspired Deals Across the State - With Tuesday’s announcement that four time NFL MVP Peyton Manning agreed to a five-year, $96 million contract with the Denver Broncos, Colorado businesses began rolling out packages and deals to celebrate Manning’s move from a Colt to a Bronco. Broncos Trio Suspended for Start of 2012 Regular Season

Phew, what a day.

As if Peyton Manning’s much-ballyhooed visit to Denver wasn’t enough…

The NFL announced Friday afternoon three Broncos players will begin the 2012 season suspended for performance-enhancing drugs.

Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams disputes the validity of his failed test. (courtesy Jeffrey Beall)

Linebacker D.J. Williams and DT Ryan McBean will be suspended for the first six games of the season.  Tight end Virgil Green will be suspended for four.  The Broncos released a statement, but didn’t go into too many details citing confidentiality:

“We are aware of this matter, but due to the confidentiality of the program, we are unable to provide additional comment on the situation.”

The Broncos may not be saying much, but Williams is.  Through his agent, Williams called the suspension “unjust” with the following:

I understand from media reports today that the NFL has announced a suspension based on a specimen that the NFL acknowledges did not contain steroids or any illegal substance. Instead, the NFL contends that I provided a non-human specimen.

I have never failed a test of any kind – for steroids or illegal substances – during my eight-year pro career. I am proud of my record and proud of the way in which I conduct myself as a professional athlete and citizen. We proved – conclusively – at the NFL hearing on this matter that the NFL and its specimen collector wholly failed in their duties to safeguard and process my specimen properly.

In fact, the specimen collector was fired by the NFL after compromising my specimen as well as others’. The hearing officer, an NFL executive, ignored the NFL’s own Policy, engaged in inappropriate communications with top NFL officials about this matter without my knowledge or approval, corrupted the system, ignored that my specimen had been compromised, and now has subjected me to humiliation as well as suspension. We will be vigorously pursuing my rights in the judicial system.

My suspension is unjust; the NFL has undermined and corrupted its own steroid policy.

The three suspended players can still participate in offseason activities and the preseason.

Williams says he’ll fight the suspension.  The Denver Post reports McBean will do the same.

Week 15 Flex Watch Continues…

We were expecting an announcement yesterday, because it usually comes on Monday.

We were then expecting an announcement today, because this is the “deadline.”

We must now wait until Wednesday to know if the Broncos’ Week 15 home game against New England is moved to primetime.  Citing league committee meetings in New York, the NFL has delayed the Dec. 18 flex decision another day.  Per a statement released Tuesday night:

“Due to NFL Committee Meetings in New York today, the Week 15 flexible schedule announcement will be released tomorrow (Wednesday, December 7).  All of the clubs under consideration to have Week 15 games flexed have informed our office that they are interested in the strongest schedule for our fans and network partners.”

What that really comes down to is a custody battle of sorts between CBS and NBC.  Right now, the game is scheduled to air on CBS.  As you can imagine, the network isn’t quite willing to give up the prospect of Tom Brady vs. Tim Tebow all that easily.  NBC has Baltimore at San Diego as its Sunday Night Football game on Dec. 18, but wants a sexier game on the docket.  (After the Saints’ 62-7 blowout of Indianapolis earlier this season, who can blame them?)  To add another layer to this story, the Patriots are also reportedly opposed to flexing.

Ordinarily, a flex decision would have been announced by now, because that’s the rule.  According to the NFL’s website: A flexible scheduling move would be announced at least 12 days before the game.

It’s Dec. 6.  This game is Dec. 18 – exactly 12 days away.

Stay tuned.
