Tuesday Headlines: Shoulder Surgery for Ryan Clady

Denver Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady is set to undergo surgery to repair his right shoulder. Clady hurt his shoulder in the team’s regular-season finale, but did play in the Broncos’ divisional-round loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Denver Post reports Clady, who was selected to the Pro Bowl and withdrew due to injury, should be okay for the 2013 season, but will likely miss much of the Broncos’ offseason program.

Clady is slated to become an unrestricted free agent, though John Elway has said keeping the tackle in Denver is a top offseason priority.

Broncos, Peyton Manning run over Ravens for ninth straight win - The Broncos first clinched no worse than the AFC’s No. 3 playoff seed Sunday by trouncing the Baltimore Ravens, 34-17, then learned a few hours later on the team bus ride from Denver International Airport to their Dove Valley headquarters that they are in the lead position for the No. 2 seed — because the New England Patriots were on their way to losing 41-34 to the San Francisco 49ers.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Broncos show Ravens how NFL defense is really played - With a wrecking-ball defense, the Broncos came to the NFL town Ray Lewis built and tore it down. Saturday Headlines: Broncos Arrive in Charlotte for Sunday’s Game

The Denver Broncos are now in Charlotte for Sunday’s game against their coach’s former team.

We’ve heard about it all week: John Fox was a longtime Carolina Panthers coach.  Of course, nothing would be sweeter than to leave North Carolina with a win.

But there’s another headline: 1 vs. 2.  Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, the 2011 NFL Draft top overall pick, faces off against Broncos linebacker Von Miller, taken by Denver at No. 2.  Just don’t expect Miller to make a big fuss about the Sunday showdown, telling the Denver Post:

“Of course I wanted to be No. 1, but Cam Newton, he’s Superman Cam.  He fit their need way more than I fit their need. I don’t have any animosity towards the Carolina Panthers. He was No. 1 and I was No. 2, but I want to go out there and win just like they want to go out there and win.”

Newton’s numbers thus far in 2012 haven’t been as impressive as his rookie campaign, but he’s nonetheless dangerous.  In fact, the Panthers’ record is a bit deceptive, but I’ll on that later in DHF’s upcoming game preview.

Other Headlines:

  • Bloomberg: Peyton Manning is the front-runner for league MVP.
  • Denver Broncos: In his latest blog, wide receiver Eric Decker weighs in the team’s next game.

Power Poll: Denver Broncos among AFC’s elite - The AFC is taking a lot of heat this season for being the weaker conference. It should. There aren’t insanely dominant teams in either conference. The AFC is top heavy but it has roughly the same amount of title contenders as the NFC.  Read more from NFL.com >>>>

Broncos’ Champ Bailey showed full assortment of skills against Saints – Occasionally, Champ Bailey gets asked about moving to safety some day. Some day soon or some day down the road, depending on who asks the question.  His answer usually revolves around when the time is right or when he thinks it would be best.
