Denver Dailies: Broncos Roundup (Wednesday Edition)

Broncos’ Tebow thrilled by Elway’s pledge of support -  A day after receiving a strong endorsement from the Broncos’ top boss, Tim Tebow was sitting in the team’s cafeteria this morning, sipping on a water bottle, reflecting on the 2011 season that just passed.  Read more from The Denver Post >>>>

Former Bronco Mike Current dies of apparent suicide - Former Denver Broncos player Mike Current died after apparently shooting himself in Oregon, just days before he was scheduled to appear in court on a sexual assault charge.  Read more from The Denver Post >>>>

Broncos coach John Fox expects numerous roster moves during offseason - When asked what the Broncos’ 2012 roster might look like, coach John Fox said Monday it was much too early to speculate. But he is certain of one thing: There will be changes.  Read more from The Denver Post >>>>

Russell Named Director of Player Personnel - The Denver Broncos have promoted Matt Russell to director of player personnel and named Brian Stark as their West Coast scout, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway announced Tuesday.  Read more from Denver Broncos >>>>

Inside the Numbers - Broncos Head Coach John Fox is just the fourth head coach since the 1970 NFL merger to inherit a team with four or fewer wins the previous season and win at least one playoff game in his first year. He joins Sean Payton (N.O., 2006) and Bobby Ross (S.D., 1992) with that distinction. Fox was on Ross’ coaching staff as the secondary coach during that season.  Read more from Denver Broncos >>>>

2012 NFL Mock Draft: Alabama S Mark Barron Goes To Denver Broncos In SB Nation’s Latest Projection - In the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos could stand to look at taking a defensive back with its first round pick (No. 25). As we saw all too much in Saturday’s loss to the New England Patriots, the Broncos have huge concerns in the secondary. Outside of Champ Bailey there was no one of substance playing back there for the most part. Rookie Quinton Carter has done all right, but David Bruton clearly showed why he is a special teams player filling in for the injured Brian Dawkins. That’s why Ryan Van Bibber predicts in his latest 2012 NFL mock draft that the Broncos will draft Alabama Crimson Tide safety Mark Barron.  Read more from SB Nation >>>>

Denver, A&M at odds over 12th Man - The Denver Broncos caught the A&M administration’s attention when a parachutist dropped into Mile High Stadium before a playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers bearing an orange Twelfth Man flag.  Read more from The Battalion >>>>

Denver Broncos Say Tim Tebow is the Quarterback to Beat Next Training Camp: Fan’s Look – For once in my life, I’m sticking up for Tim Tebow. Sort of.  I have been forthcoming, though not distasteful, in my critiques of Tim Tebow, both in my writings as well as within my personal circles. I don’t plan on retracting much of what I’ve said concerning the man, but what was released by the Denver Broncos —via John Elway’s announcement—just struck a wrong note with me.  Read more from Yahoo! The NFL’s total domination of television - It has come to this: Football is more popular than Hollywood.  In 2011, nine of the 10 highest-rated television broadcasts were NFL programming, eight of them besting even the Academy Awards. Tom Brady is more popular than Christian Bale and Natalie Portman! NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” was the third most popular show on network television, trailing only “American Idol.” ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” was the No. 1 show — not No. 1 sport, No. 1 show — on cable.  Read more from ESPN >>>>

‘Bench Orton’ Billboard Campaign Begins…Maybe

Kyle, you might want to avoid looking at billboards while driving around town. (personal photo)

Love the Denver Broncos?

I suspect you do; otherwise, you’re likely wasting your time here, unless you’re related to me and have decided to heed my advice and “support” my latest writing endeavor.

But I digress…

Back on topic, let me revise the initial question:

Are you a Broncos fan so upset with Kyle Orton at quarterback that you’re willing to make your message known – via a billboard?

One self-professed diehard fan is.  Read this comment posted Wednesday morning on the Denver Broncos fan forum:

Wow.  That’s devotion…or something.

My first reaction?  This fan really took Orton’s fumble hard.

I’m not an Orton supporter, but then again, I’m not a supporter per se of any quarterback currently on the Broncos roster, but a billboard?  Really?  Maybe this threat of a billboard is a gimmick for attention.  If so, mission already accomplished.  At least check, the “Raised enough money for a billboard” thread was 13 pages – many filled with this-makes-our-fans-look-bad sentiment.

Besides, do you honestly think the billboard will be effective?  The following is a quote from John Fox that will never happen:

“I was debating whether to start Tim Tebow, but you know what convinced me?  That ‘Bench Orton’ billboard on Federal near Colfax.  Great restaurants in that neighborhood.”

If all goes well (or poorly, depending on how you look at things), the ‘Bench Orton 2011’ campaign could be coming to a billboard near you by Week 3.

UPDATE: Lindsay Jones of The Denver Post has some background information on the billboard campaign organizer.  Read here.
