Denver Dailies: Broncos Roundup (Saturday Edition)

Broncos’ Brock Osweiler looking like backup plan at quarterback - Q: Are there any sort of risks if the Broncos make (Brock) Osweiler the backup QB?  A: Bill, if he can perform well in the upcoming preseason games, Osweiler is on track to be the Broncos’ No. 2 quarterback.  The Broncos selected the 21-year-old — he’ll turn 22 in November — in the second round of the April draft. The model Denver had in mind was similar to the Packers’ model.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Peyton Manning already has memorable history playing in Denver - If he’s nervous, it’s only because for all his robotic passing proficiency, Peyton Manning is human.  If he is excited, he will hardly be the only one.  If he’s scared, it will be a first.  History suggests Manning has never been afraid of playing at the Broncos’ stadium that is now called Sports Authority Field at Mile High. For the first time since he signed with the Broncos in March, Manning will perform at the stadium Saturday afternoon when the team holds a free public scrimmage.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Broncos Team with Melanoma Exposed - Hundreds of Denver Broncos fans were screened for skin cancer while showing their support for the team during last weekend’s training camp practices. The skin screenings were offered by the Broncos in partnership with Melanoma Exposed (TM) — a new public awareness campaign that aims to raise awareness of melanoma and its risk factors and to encourage people to get screened.  Every Broncos fan needs to take melanoma seriously. Not only is it the deadliest form of skin cancer, claiming the life of one American every hour, but it can affect anyone — Coloradans are no exception. In fact, Colorado has the second highest melanoma death rate in the country, and living at a higher elevation can increase a person’s risk for developing the disease.  Read more from Denver Broncos >>>>

Denver Broncos training camp: All eyes on Peyton Manning - On one of the Denver Broncos’ two practice fields, quarterback Peyton Manning stood under the center of his new offensive line with no defenders, no wide receivers and no running backs around him. He was in the middle of a tutorial: Manning Cadences 101. “Buffalo … alert tight … double, double, double … apple, apple, apple,” he hollered. For years, we’ve come to learn these calls at the line of scrimmage as trademark Peyton. But as we learn to accept No. 18 wearing new colors, we also must remember that everything must be re-taught to a new group, a new team. The second chapter is so clearly under way at Broncos training camp — even if in so many ways he still looks like the same old Peyton Manning.  Read more from NFL.com >>>>

Denver Broncos Training Camp 2012: Last chance for 2009 draftees Moreno, Ayers - As a friend recently reminded us on Twitter, in Broncos Country, Josh McDaniels‘ surname is a four-letter word. The sound “McDaniels” is fingernails on the chalkboard, a teeth-clinching, shoulder-buckling, neck-hairs-standing-on-end reminder of the worst two-year period in franchise history.  Read more from Bronco Talk >>>>

Broncos unlikely to charge Knowshon Moreno with return duties - Q: Does Knowshon Moreno, provided that he is healthy … have the speed and talent to be the Broncos punt/kick returner?  A: David, Moreno is just eight months removed from surgeryto repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. He’s still working his way back into even a limited role in the offense these days.  Monday morning’s practice was the first time he’s worked in drills when there was even limited contact since he suffered the injury in November in Kansas City. Moreno’s surgery was Dec. 1.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Peyton Manning drew Broncos’ attention by making point after point - As folks both near and far continue to try and wrap their heads around the idea of Peyton Manning wearing a Broncos helmet, there continues to be a segment of the local football-loving population that still wonders why the Broncos tried so hard to bring in the future Hall of Famer in the first place.  Never mind the fact that there really isn’t a better reason than he is a future Hall of Famer with more than a few passes remaining on the odometer.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Osweiler’s Eyes, Ears Open - Rookies are often described as “swimming” early in training camp.  Even with the advantage of a rookies-only minicamp earlier in the offseason, when the pads come on and plays are coming in fast and furious, it can get overwhelming at times.  For a quarterback — the leader of the offense — all that is taken up another notch.  Read more from Denver Broncos >>>>

Choosing between Thomas, Decker - Who will have the better fantasy season: Demaryius Thomas or Eric Decker?  The Denver Broncos have a pair of third-year wide receivers poised to make a major impact this season in Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker. They were already trending in the right direction based on their development last season, and their outlooks became even sunnier when the Broncos added Peyton Manning in the offseason.  If the combination of Thomas and Decker could have their moments with Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow at quarterback, just imagine what they could do with a healthy Manning running the show. Broncos fans are having flashbacks of Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey, who each had 1,000-yard seasons from 1998-2000.  Read more from ESPN >>>>

Denver Broncos training camp ‘surreal’ for QB Brock Osweiler - When a hectic pace slows in Englewood, Colo., where the Denver Broncos hold training camp, former Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler thinks back to where he was a year ago, and he can’t help but be amazed.  ”In fact, (former ASU receiver) Gerell Robinson is my roommate here at training camp, and we talk about that sometimes,” Osweiler said in a telephone interview. “One year ago we were getting ready for fall camp at ASU, and there was so much anticipation for the season and we were talking Rose Bowl and there was a lot of excitement. But then that season flew by, the whole training process went by, and now I’m in football camp with the Denver Broncos. It’s pretty surreal.”  Read more fro AZ Central >>>>

Denver Broncos News: Peyton Manning’s Success May Hinge On One Player - As important as many of the additions were to the Denver Broncos this past offseason, the offensive line remains perhaps the most vital component for the team’s success – particularly due to the new guy who will be taking snaps.  Protecting Peyton Manning might priority No. 1 for Denver in 2012.  With training camp already underway, the Broncos have begun negotiating contract talks with Pro Bowl left tackle Ryan Clady. As of Monday, there has been no word of a deal in place, which is cause for concern.  Read more from International Business Times >>>>

Peyton Manning takes Broncos into the no-huddle - Five practices into his first Denver Broncos training camp, Peyton Manning finally got into what he knows best: the no-huddle offense.  Manning and the first-team offense went into the no-huddle during one of the final periods of Monday’s practice, and he wasted little time carving the defense, hitting Eric Decker on a 40-yard post route on the first play of the period.  ”It was game simulation,” said safety Rahim Moore, who along with cornerback Tracy Porter was beaten by Decker. “It also gets you ready for getting the calls in quicker from the coaching staff and relaying them to us and going out there and playing.”  Read more from CBS Sports >>>>

Broncos, players fully embracing social media - The Denver Broncos were the first team to announce the firing of a head coach (Josh McDaniels, 2010) in NFL history and have fully embraced the social media movement over the past two seasons.  The Broncos have been tweeting since 2007, but their social media movement was spearheaded by John Elway in early 2011, shortly after Elway returned to the team as a football operations executive.  Since joining Twitter, Elway has announced trades, signings and cuts over the social media platform — keeping fans in the loop with instantly updated timelines.  Read more from Bronco Talk >>>>

AFC breakdown: All eyes on Denver Broncos in offseason - The NFL’s era of free agency has had its share of blockbuster courtships, of big-name players moving on to put their names on somebody else’s marquee.  But as the AFC’s early birds — the Bills and the Patriots — have their rookies report to training camp this week, the offseason officially comes to a close with the biggest balance-of-power move in the conference having been made in Denver.Yes, Denver, where a Hall of Fame quarterback, John Elway, pursued a future Hall of Fame quarterback, Peyton Manning, and where plenty of hype and hope has since followed.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Sunday Talk: Why Did Brother Peyton Choose Denver? - Future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning is returning from a year off rehabbing from neck surgery. The decision by the Indianapolis Colts to part ways with him in favor of No.1 pick Andrew Luck set off a chain reaction across the league. Teams came out of their skins to find a way to sign him.  The team that won out was the Denver Broncos, currently presided over by none other than John Elway, one of the game’s greatest QBs. Elway swayed Peyton to shun such warm weather and indoor destinations (such as Miami and Arizona) for the mile-high life. But if you’re Peyton Manning, why in the world would you make that choice after playing in a controlled environment for the past 14 years?  Read more from Giants Football Blog >>>>

Franchise Development 10 Of 32: The Denver Broncos - The team had a horrible run under Josh McDaniels, who gutted the team of their best talent, namely QB Jay Cutler and WR Brandon Marshall, because of his own ego problems. Mercifully, the organization fired him, put John Elway as President, and hired ex-Panthers coach John Fox.  I’ve always felt Fox was one of the better NFL coaches. He’s very good at being flexible and playing to his team’s strengths. He also has former Jaguars Head Coach Jack del Rio as his Defensive Coordinator. Del Rio’s teams always played very solid defense, so he’s a great asset to have.  Read more from Cat Crave >>>>

Broncos slip to 9th best Super Bowl odds - It seems the Peyton Manning hysteria was rubbed off some. The Broncos 1st Round Draft Pick History – A first round pick in the National Football League can make or break a draft for a team and specifically a General Manager. Why? Because this selection is supposed to become a Pro Bowl caliber player and better be a starter as a Rookie. A top ten pick had better be a difference maker or a play-maker to boot. The kind of player that the opposing team has to account for in their game plan.  Today, we will study how the Denver Broncos have done with this selection in the franchise’s history.  Read more from Mile High Report >>>>

Jets, Redskins, Broncos face playoff run setbacks - Forget Eli Manning vs. Tom Brady. Super Bowl XLVI pitted the New York Giants and the league’s worst rushing attack against the New England Patriots and their 31st-ranked defense.  You don’t often see that, but even championship teams have a weakness.  Winning franchises learn to mask their faults, but this is dangerous territory. Do the Denver Broncos Have a Viable Backup for Peyton Manning? Denver Broncos: 5 Most Overpaid and Underpaid Players on the Roster - The Denver Broncos, like most teams in the NFL, have players that both out-perform and under-perform the salaries in their contracts.  As fans, we like to dissect and discuss a player’s perceived value. Denver Broncos Renovate Sports Authority Field Around Peyton Manning: Fan Reaction - In daily travels around our capital city, thousands of Hoosiers drive by “The House That Peyton Built,” a playful moniker that pays deference to former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and his lingering impact. There is little doubt that, without Manning and his legendary performances over the last decade, there would be no Lucas Oil Stadium, and the Colts might not even still be in Indy. It seems that Manning’s new team, the Denver Broncos, have taken note of the quarterback’s ability to drive architectural plans and are making plans for some construction of their own. As Dan Hanzus of NFL.com reported on June 27, Denver is planning to create more luxury suites at Sports Authority Field to accommodate the high-end fans drawn in by the Manning signing. This move is not completely surprising, but it’s still quite a tribute to the star power of a 36-year-old who has been out of action for more than a year.  Read more more Yahoo! Sports >>>>

Obviously, the later the round, the more difficult it is to make any NFL teams final roster. Many 7th round picks are raw and have as much chance of landing on the Practice Squad as they do being cut in Training Camp. The good news as far as Broncos Country is concerned, is that their favorite team has done fairly well in the late rounds.
