Denver Dailies: Broncos Roundup (Monday Edition)

Broncos Training Camp Schedule: Team will practice Monday from 8:50-11:30 a.m. at Dove Valley.  Practice is open to the public.

Woody Paige: Peyton Manning new leader of Broncos’ arms race - Historically, the most scrutinized upraised right arm is in the Orion constellation.  Next, now, is the upraised right arm in the Broncos’ training camp.  This appendage belongs to Peyton, and unlike Orion who used a club, his weapon is a football.  We have become accustomed in Denver to analyzing elevated arms, right and left, from John Elway’s to Jay Cutler’s, Mike Hampton’s to Ubaldo Jimenez’s, and, of course, Tim Tebow’s.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Broncos keep packing them in for practice at Dove Valley - Used to be, it was considered a successful Broncos practice, at least from a marketing perspective, when more than 2,000 fans showed up for an open practice at Dove Valley.  On Sunday, for the third time since camp began last week, more than 4,000 fans squeezed into the grassy berms to watch practice.  Welcome to the new normal for the Peyton Manning-led Broncos.  Sunday’s large crowd — 4,003 to be exact — saw the second consecutive practice in pads, with this session including more in-the-trenches, linemen-pounding action than Saturday’s pass-happy practice. The session included some goal-line work for the first time this camp.  Read more from the Denver Post >>>>

Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas out to prove he can be a No. 1 guy - After his first full training camp practice in nearly two years, Demaryius Thomas escaped to the weight room, then stripped off his white No. 88 practice jersey and cleats. He walked gingerly through the parking lot in his socks, and slowly lowered himself onto a picnic table bench.  He was exhausted in the best way possible.  Read more from the Denver  Post >>>>

Unrein Pushing for Playing Time - The Broncos’ defensive line will likely feature bookends Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers lining up at the defensive end positions.  At tackle, however, it’s currently anyone’s guess who Denver will start in Week 1 of the regular season. Denver’s only returning starter at defensive tackle from 2011 is Kevin Vickerson, who started four of the first five games of the season before being placed on injured reserve.  Read more from Denver Broncos >>>>

Notebook: A Mental Battle - With 26 practices and a preseason game crammed into three weeks of training camp, the physical tribulations that players battle through in the heat of the summer are well documented. But the mental aspect of the daily training camp grind can also present a challenge.  Every day, new plays and formations are installed and players must learn more individual assignments.  Read more from Denver Broncos >>>>

Offense vs. Defense - Across the NFL, training camp is the time when teams are built.  Competition helps define the roster, and through the sweat and hard work, players get to know one another on and off the field.  It’s no different in Denver.  “We have a tight group,” defensive end Elvis Dumervil said. “We spend all day with each other. You have no choice, every time you look around a guy is next to you. That’s good. That’s good camaraderie for the team. We just build that brotherhood.”  Read more from Denver Broncos >>>>

Camp Confidential: Denver Broncos - A veteran Denver Bronco was relaxing after the first training camp practice of a monumental season for the franchise.  He shook his head.  “When was the last time we had something like this here?” he asked. “This is something.”  Read more from Associated Press >>>>

Exclusive Q&A With Broncos Great Rod Smith - Rod Smith’s name has been resurfacing a lot lately. His face graces the cover of the 2012 Denver Broncos media guide, he spoke to players about working hard to achieve success the night before training camp started, and he’s being inducted into the Broncos’ Ring of Fame in September.  The two-time Super champion entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Southern State. He left the NFL with 849 receptions for 11,389 yards, and 68 touchdowns attached to his name. Talk about a work-horse.  I had the opportunity to speak with Smith at the Barrels of Love Foundation silent auction, honoring the late Tim Mckernan, otherwise known as “Barrel Man.” Smith was gracious enough to take a few minutes with us so let’s jump right in.  Read more from Predominantly Orange >>>>

Backup QB Is The Most Important Position For The Denver Broncos - Executive VP of the Denver Broncos John Elway had a vision of what direction his team needed to be headed into in the offseason.  While looking at the depth chart at the QB position, it could not have been a more undesirable situation looking at Tim Tebow as his starter, while Brady Quinn was the backup. Then came the opportunity to sign one of, if not the best QBs to ever play the position, Peyton Manning.  That coup opened up the chance to dump Tebowmania on the New York Jets and allow Quinn to take his talents(or lack thereof) to the Kansas City Chiefs.  The only question that remains is who will back up the hall of fame QB?  Read more from Rant Sports >>>>

Denver Broncos: 6 Potential Sleepers to Watch for in Training Camp - Denver Bronco training camp is officially underway!  This is great news for those of us who have been waiting impatiently since last January.  For a number of veterans, the start of training camp is nothing to be excited about.  Two-a-days in the heat, days filled with meetings and organized team activities all day aren’t much fun for players who already have a set spot on the team.  But those players who are out there looking to earn a roster spot have to be sharp every day.  Read more from Bleacher Report >>>>
