Black Monday Means Interest in Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy

Of the seven NFL teams currently without a head coach – see the full list here – two have expressed interested in interviewing Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.

The Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears have received permission from the Broncos to speak with McCoy about their head coaching vacancies.  Ken Whisenhunt and Lovie Smith were both fired Monday.

According to the Denver Post, the Cardinals and Bears must interview McCoy in the Denver area this weekend.  The Broncos, who secured the AFC’s No. 1 seed Sunday, have a bye in the opening weekend of the playoffs.

If McCoy does get hired during the playoffs, he will remain with Denver during the Broncos’ postseason run.

Meanwhile, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, who spent nine seasons as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, has yet to surface as a head coaching candidate.  Expect that to change, though I’m rooting against it.

Playoff tickets available?  Yeah, right!

From the This-should-surprise-no-one department:

Tickets for the Broncos AFC divisional playoff game sold out in a whopping nine minutes.  The 5,000 single-game tickets went on sale on ticketmaster.com at noon local time.
