This is becoming old hat, is it not?
NFL Magazine, a brand spakin’ new endeavor by – you guessed it – the NFL, debuts later this month, and the cover features the Broncos quarterback.
Turns out, Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton was supposed to be the “it” man. Now Cam knows how Kyle Orton felt.
NFL Magazine’s publisher and editor-in-chief Mike Dunphy explained the cover choice switcheroo to Assoicated Press:
“Tim Tebow is current. He’s a talking piece. You love him or you hate him. What better relevant topic than Tim Tebow?
“Initially we had talked about not being controversial and just trying to keep everybody happy and we talked about who would be a good role model to be on the cover, and listen, Cam Newton definitely fits the bill. We’re still going to feature Cam in the magazine, but we wanted to show the fans that we’re not going to shy away from the news.”
NFL Magazine is a monthly publication that hits newsstands Dec. 13.
But wait, there’s more!
How current is Tim Tebow? As Dunphy said, he’s current enough to warrant a magazine cover. But he’s also current enough to get his own 30-minute special on NFL Network.
“Playbook Special Edition: Tim Tebow” hosted by Joe Theismann will air Saturday at 8:30 p.m. MT.
