About DHF

Greetings from Denver!

This wonderful city is now my home, but my roots are in Indiana. I was born and raised in suburban Indianapolis, and graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Sport Communication and B.A. in Psychology.

Yes, I’m a devout Hoosier and wouldn’t have it any other way. For the record, I do own a pair of candy stripe pants and have worn them publicly – repeatedly – and find such actions entirely normal.

My so-called “day job” has evolved over the years, taking me to five states and slightly different career paths along the way. I worked seven years in television news, originally on-air as a news/sports reporter and anchor, and more recently, behind-the-scenes as a news producer. In late 2010, in the midst of a lousy job market, I decided to leave the industry, move to Denver with my favorite Broncos fan, and pursue a new career.

A new career in what? I wasn’t sure, but as with most things in life, I knew I would stumble upon something and ultimately figure it out.

Shortly after my arrival in Denver, thick in my career search and newest chapter of self-discovery, I joined Aerys Sports. I’m often asked how I became interested in sports. The short answer is I simply don’t remember not being a sports fan. It turns out I’m not alone.

So back to what I do now…

Slightly bitter from never having a traditional lunch break in my prior professional life, I enjoyed a brief stint as a restaurant marketing consultant; delicious food and the occasional adult beverage were always within arm’s reach. In late 2011, I began working as a multimedia communications specialist for a health and wellness facility on the University of Colorado Denver’s Anschutz Medical Campus.

My hobbies aren’t too surprising; I enjoy writing and sports…and writing about sports (stunning, right?). Also not surprising and staying true to my Indiana upbringing, I’m a fervent basketball fan and longtime bracketologist. I occasionally contribute to Aerys Sports’ NCAA and NBA pages, as well as miscellaneous freelance and volunteer projects.

As for the nonsports side of me, I finally abandoned the cereal-three-times-a-day routine to hone my culinary skills. I travel whenever my hectic schedule permits, preferring warm climates to cold. I’m also a bona fide Angry Birds addict, love all things peppermint, and especially get a kick out of commercials with talking animals.
