Former Duke baseball player Chris Manno got the opportunity to pitch in Pool C of the World Baseball Classic in Puerto Rico. He pitched for Spain, but the team went 0-3 and were eliminated this past weekend.
Manno, who was also a member of the qualifying team this past fall, pitched in two games. He entered in Game 2 with two runners on base and neither scored. Over 1.2 scoreless innings, he struck out one. He threw nine of his 17 pitches for strikes.
Manno was back out on the mound in Spain’s final game of the WBC, a loss to Venezuela (who also was eliminated). He ended up allowing three runs (though two scored after he had left the game). He did strike out one.
Now, Manno is probably back in Arizona for spring training with the Cincinnati Reds.
