Duke Freshman Pitches Blue Devils Past Penn

The Duke baseball team rebounded from Tuesday’s loss to visiting Penn to beat them on Wednesday, 8-1.

Michael Matuella made his first career start and threw five scoreless innings to record his first career win. Matuella allowed four hits and struck out two.

Duke scored three runs in the first, capped by Chris Marconcini’s two-run double. They blew the game open in the sixth, helped out by three walks and two hit batters (all in order), with four runs.

Jeff Kremer went 4-for-4 and Andy Perez went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

For Penn, Austin Bossart went 3-for-3 and Spencer Branigan went 2-for-3.

The Blue Devils open their ACC schedule this weekend, as they travel to Miami.
