Duke Somehow Beats Wake Forest

The Duke men’s basketball team squeaked out an ACC road victory with a 75-70 win at Wake Forest.

If you look at the stats, you wonder how this game isn’t in overtime.

Duke made three more shots, but Wake Forest made one more three pointer. Both teams made the same amount of free throws (17). The game was tied at 40-40 at the half and the Demon Deacons actually made more second half shots than Duke.

What the Blue Devils have that Wake Forest doesn’t is Mason Plumlee. He made 12-of-15 of his shots for a game-high 32 points. He also hauled in nine rebounds and blocked two shots. He even made 8-of-10 free throws. The one downside was that Plumlee committed seven turnovers.

Seth Curry was also hard to stop, though he missed ten shots. He scored 21points. Quinn Cook added 12 points, four rebounds, and seven assists.

Duke actually out-rebounded Wake, 27-25. The turnovers were a little high (15), but they forced 17. And they even won by shooting poorly from the outside, just 2-of-14.

For the Demon Deacons, Devin Thomas led the team with 15 points. He also hauled in six rebounds. CJ Harris and Travis McKie each had 14 points.

Next up, the Blue Devils will find out if they have cured their ACC road woes on Saturday afternoon. They travel to Florida State, who has been the conference’s biggest disappointment.
