Former Blue Devil Named to Team Spain for WBC

On Thursday, the World Baseball Classic rosters were announced for the upcoming international baseball tournament that begins in March. Former Duke baseball player Chris Manno was named to Team Spain.

Manno participated in the WBC Qualifier when Spain beat Israel in Jupiter, Florida in September (though he did not pitch). The Cincinnati Reds farmhand pitched in 50 games for Double-A Pensacola in 2012 and had a 3.78 ERA. The lefty walked just 22 and struck out 51.

Spain is part of a loaded Pool C, which will be played in Puerto Rico. They begin play on March 8th against host Puerto Rico. Their second game is on March 9th against the Dominican Republic and their final pool play game comes on March 10th against Venezuela.

The top two teams in Pool C advance to the second round in Miami to face the top two teams in Pool D (which includes the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Italy).
