Duke Women Finish Trojan Classic 2-0

Just 15 hours after beating CSUB in the Trojan Classic, the Duke women’s basketball team beat the host USC Trojans on Saturday afternoon, 75-60.

The Blue Devils were led by California native Chelsea Gray, who finished with a double-double. She scored 18 points and hauled in ten rebounds.

She was one of five players to score in double figures. Haley Peters, despite fouling out, scored 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Tricia Liston scored 14 points. Freshman Alexis Jones scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, while hauling in three rebounds, dishing out four assists, and having three steals.

Coach P admitted after the game that she may have pushed Elizabeth Williams a little too much the night before. She is still bothered by the stress fracture in her leg and went just 6-of-16 from the field. She did however block four shots. That’s 43 straight games with a block.

The Blue Devils won the game both at the free throw line and from the three point line. Duke made 13-of-16, while USC made just 10-of-20. Duke made 8-of-12 three pointers, but USC made just 2-of-14. Duke also forced 19 turnovers and committed just 12.

Duke however was out-rebounded for the first time this season. They allowed 38 rebounds (compared to their 30) and allowed 20 on the offensive end.

The Blue Devils now have another week off (this time for the holidays) before getting back on the court on December 30th at home against Monmouth.
