Despite not playing last week (and hopefully they are doing well on exams), the Duke men’s basketball team has become the new number one team in the country according to both the AP Poll and the ESPN/Coaches Poll.
I, like many, thought that Duke should have already been ranked number one. What else could they do besides beat three of last year’s Final Four teams?
However, the Blue Devils are back on top after Indiana lost in overtime to Butler on Saturday. They received 62 of the 65 votes. It is their 123rd week of being ranked number one in the team’s history. They do not get back onto the court until Wednesday night when they play Cornell at home (followed by Elon the next night at Cameron).
Michigan received the other two votes and moved up to number two. Syracuse is the new third ranked team. Rounding out the top ten are Arizona, Louisville, Indiana, Ohio State, Florida, Kansas, and Illinois.
Other teams in the ACC that are ranked include North Carolina (23 in the AP, 19 in the Coaches Poll) and NC State (25) though the Wolfpack dropped out of the Coaches Poll.
