The Duke women’s soccer team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season on Friday with a 4-1 victory over Miami (Ohio). The Blue Devils will play the winner of Virginia-Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. That game will be held at the home of the Cavaliers.
Kim DeCesare led the Blue Devils with her fourth multi-goal game of the season. She scored two goals in a span of three minutes. The first goal came at the 9:52 mark. Gilda Doria ended her 13 match scoreless streak with a first half goal at the 26:54 mark.
Laura Weinberg added a goal in the second half (her 16th of the season). That goal gave her 42 points on the season, a new Duke record.
The Blue Devils out-shot Miami (Ohio) 14-5 overall and 10-1 in the first half.
Nicole Lipp picked up her fifth career NCAA Tournament assist, which tied a Duke tournament mark.
