Duke Women’s Soccer Seeded Third in NCAA Tourney

During Monday’s selection show, the Duke women’s soccer team found out their seeding for the upcoming NCAA Women’s College Cup.

The Blue Devils are the third seed and will play host to Loyola Maryland on Saturday at 4pm ET. It is the tenth straight year they have earned an at-large bid to the tournament.

Loyola won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday for the tenth time in school history. They have a 12-5-4 record overall and are coached by 1996 Duke alum Katherine Remy Vettori. They are led by Nicole Schiro, who has 15 goals (34 points) on the season.

Penn State is the one-seed in Duke’s bracket, followed by Virginia, Duke, and Portland.

The winner advances to the second round to play the winner of Miami (Ohio)/Tennessee.

 

*The ACC has nine teams in the field. Florida State is a top seed in one bracket.

In other women’s soccer news, the conference released its All-ACC teams. Laura Weinberg was named to the first team. Teammates Kim DeCesare, Natasha Anasi, and Cassie Pecht were named to the second team. Pecht was also named the ACC Freshman of the Year (just the third Blue Devil to earn the award). Her 11 assists are tied for first in the conference and rank fifth in the nation.

Don’t forget: the Duke men’s soccer team begins their quest for an ACC Tournament title tonight at 7pm ET against rival North Carolina. The game is being played in Chapel Hill.

During the regular season, the Blue Devils lost to the Tarheels, 2-1 in overtime.
