Devon Gagliardi scored the tying goal for the Duke field hockey team in the 42nd minute, but it wasn’t enough to hold off reigning national champion Maryland in the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils lost 2-1 in the quarterfinals.
Maryland took control early and scored about nine minutes into the game. Duke didn’t take control on offense until there was six minutes left in the first half and they continued that play into the second half when Gagliardi scored.
The Terrapins took the lead in the 52nd minute on a goal that soared over Duke goalie Lauren Blazing‘s right shoulder.
It was back-and-forth the rest of the way, but the Blue Devils couldn’t create an offensive threat (even after pulling their goalie).
They finished their season with a 7-11 record, but 0-5 in the ACC.
