The Duke football team won their second game, a thrashing of NC Central, by a score of 54-17.
The Blue Devils scored at least ten points in every quarter and led 27-10 at the half. However, they were just 1-for-10 on third downs.
It was all about the big plays on Saturday. Their first touchdown came in the first quarter on Lee Butler’s 65 yard punt return. He had three returns for a total of 106 yards. In that same quarter, Duke quarterback Sean Renfree threw a 33 yard touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder (who caught seven passes for 84 yards and also rushed for seven yards). Renfree also threw an 18 yard touchdown pass to Josh Snead in the second quarter.
Renfree struck again in the third quarter. This time, he threw a 54 yard TD pass to Issac Blakeney. In the fourth quarter, Ross Cockrell returned an interception for 32 yards and the score.
Overall, Renfree was 24-of-34 for 274 yards. Connor Vernon caught five passes for 51 yards. Desmond Scott caught five passes for 56 yards. Jela Duncan rushed for 50 yards on six carries.
