Update on Duke’s Holliday

On Thursday, Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe talked about all of the injuries with the football team, none more significant than wide receiver’s Blair Holliday.

Holliday was injured on July 4th in a personal watercraft accident. He is in the UNC Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit with a severe brain injury. He also has broken bones in his face (though his family does not want updates made available on his condition).

Cutcliffe is complying with the family’s wishes but said that Holliday is fighting hard.

Donations for the Holliday family (which have been approved by the NCAA), are being accepted by check at the Duke football office and through an online site. Through Friday, donations had exceeded $7,000.

Meanwhile, fellow Duke wide receiver Jamison Crowder was cited for failure to take a boater safety course before operating the personal watercraft (the two crashed into each other). When he is finished taking the free course, the charge will be dropped.

*In other Duke injury news, tight end Braxton Deaver broke his left kneecap during a workout. The defense lost starting linebacker Kelby Brown, who is recovering from a second torn ACL in February, and lineman Allen Jackson, who needs surgery following an offseason shoulder injury.
