Duke’s Vernon Named a Preseason All-American

Duke senior Conner Vernon, a wide receiver, was named an All-American by the Phil Steele’s 2012 College Football Preview. He was named to the fourth team by the national football magazine. Vernon was also named a preseason All-ACC member by the magazine.

Vernon became the first player in ACC history with 70 plus receptions in multiple seasons. Last year, he caught 70 passes for 956 yards (and seven touchdowns). He is the NCAA’s active leader in receptions (198) and receiving yardage (2,675).

He is also a two-time second team All-ACC honoree. Heading into the 2012 football season, he has a streak of 33 straight games with at least one reception.

Laken Tomlinson, a redshirt sophomore offensive guard, was named to the All-ACC fourth team. He was a first team freshman All-American and an Academic All-ACC selection. Tomlinson started all 12 games at right guard and was second on the team in snaps played (926).

 

The Duke football season opens on September 1st with a home game against FIU.
