Helfet Signs with Seahawks

Former Duke tight end Cooper Helfet signed with the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL. This past weekend he participated in the Seahawks’ rookie camp.

In his final season at Duke (2011), he caught 43 passes for 395 yards and four touchdowns. In 2010, he caught 34 passes for 380 yards and two touchdowns. Despite playing just two seasons at Duke, Helfet’s 77 career receptions ranks ninth best for a Duke tight end.

Helfet paired with wide receiver Conner Vernon (70 passes) for the most receptions in a single-season for a wide receiver-tight end combo (113) this past season.

The Blue Devils passing attack ranked second in the ACC in 2011 and this was just the second Duke team ever to have four players with at least 40 receptions.

Helfet was also a two-time Academic All-ACC selection.
